Septemb-Eyre

I'm trying something new this month and participating in a read-along! I often include Jane Eyre on my list of all-time favorite books, but I've only read it once. When Kerry at Entomology of a Bookworm suggested a read-along, it seemed like a perfect excuse to revisit the book.

(Note: I've gone temporarily deaf to anyone who questions the wisdom of taking on a reading challenge with work, starting grad school, and half of Vanity Fair to read for book club already on my plate. I don't need to sleep, right?)

The moral of the story is that I might fall behind, but that's okay.

Who am I?
If you're new to the blog, here's a bit about me. I'm a twenty-something owl (yes, owl--see more about our blog here) who lives in the midwest. I'm a librarian-in-training, and I read more than is probably healthy. Outside of the bibliosphere, I enjoy running flying, baking, and wasting time on the Internet. I have a human alter-ego who tweets at @knsievert and also rates books on GoodReads.

I have read Jane Eyre before, and I loved it. I've only read it once--while I was a counselor at an summer camp for owlets from all over the world who were learning English as a second language. Needless to say, I didn't have a lot of spare attention to give to the book, which I read during the little downtime I had. I'm looking forward to a quieter reading experience this time.

I have the Barnes & Noble Classics version of Jane Eyre, and I've also downloaded Project Gutenberg's copy for my ereader so I don't have to lug the book around on the bus.

Since Owl You Need is a Good Read is a group blog, I might try putting all my updates in one post, with new content at the top each week. I can't wait to get started and to find out what all the first-time readers think!

  1. Hi Madeleine, I'm on a cuteness-overload from your blog header! :D

Is Septemb-Eyre your first readalong? It is mine, and I'm psyched to be part of it, with a book I've wanted to read for ages. I'm reading the ebook version of the B&N Classics Edition and I love all the endnotes they've provided; they're quite helpful.

Hope you find the time to both read and sleep!

    1. Hi loosheesh! It is my first readalong. I've seen them around before, but I usually find ones I'm interested in after they are over. I'm pretty excited to read Jane Eyre, and helpful footnotes are always a plus.

    2. Oh, and our header gives us cuteness-overload sometimes too!

  2. Hallo, Hallo Madeliene!! :)

I am a fellow Septemb-Eyre girl!! :) I have happily been visiting each of our blogs, as a way to say "Hallo!" and to read happily how each of us has come to be acquainted with Ms. Jane Eyre! I love the diversity of interest as much as the unique approach that we each are taking! :) I love even that for the most part, we are each reading a different version of the book (either print copies, e-book varieties, or audiobook formats!)!! I think it might lend to some rather unique surprises as we each update our blogs each week! :)

I left a rather long comment on my blog, as I sort of forgot that my blog comments are posting easier now than they were earlier! Forgive me! I must dash off, as I need to make haste on dinner! I'll fly back lateron as well as throughout the weeks of Septemb-Eyre!

    1. Hi Jorie! Thanks for stopping by. I can't wait to hear what everyone has to say about Jane Eyre. It's always interesting to hear how the way people read (print book, audiobook, ebook, etc.) effects what they think of the book. For example, when I listen to audiobooks, whether or not the narrator is any good always makes a huge difference.

  3. Seconded on the cute blog header - I love it! I think we have a lot of participants who have read the book once but are picking it up a second time. I'm so looking forward to diving in as a newbie!

    1. Rereading is always fun because you pick up on different things the second time. Hope you are enjoying the book so far!

    2. Agreed on re-reading, especially with any book that has a kind of reveal or twist. I'm about 50 pages in so far and enjoying it!

  4. Welcome to your first read-along! I tend not to do very well at read-alongs, but I'm hoping to change things this time around. I don't question the wisdom of taking this on while you have all that going on, us book bloggers do silly things when it comes to reading. Plus, you've experienced the book before so I'm sure you'll do fine.

    1. True! It's a lot less daunting having read it before.

  5. Looking forward to re-reading the majority of this one! Sadly, I never finished the last 30 pages when I read it before. #readerfail
